Although Ryan never initially envisioned himself as a writer, storytelling has always been part of his life. His journey began at age 10, when a school assignment sparked a spooky short story about two children alone in a house hearing strange noises. His teacher praised the tale, read it aloud to the class, and awarded him a prize in assembly — a moment Ryan never forgot. From then on, he knew he wanted to tell stories, even if his dreams shifted along the way. For a while, his dinosaur obsession had him convinced he would become a palaeontologist.

In secondary school, Ryan’s passion for films inspired him to chase a different dream — to be the next Steven Spielberg. He went on to study film and television at college, where he also wrote articles for the student magazine, before pursuing scriptwriting at university. Eventually deciding it wasn’t for him, Ryan built a career in arts marketing and communications. But during the 2020 pandemic, he finally found the time to return to writing — and Keepers of the Crossing was born.

Ryan loves exploring a variety of genres, but horror, fantasy, and adventure truly ignite his imagination. Growing up, he rarely saw characters he could relate to, so he now writes stories that bring joy and representation to readers who, like him, long to see themselves reflected in the worlds they love.
